Lovely light and expensive, November 13, 2010

I first encountered this fragrance at a fashion show and really liked it — but thought it was ridiculously expensive. I liked it enough that I searched it out online and bought it for the least expensive price — but it was still $140 for one and a half ounces! I love the fragrance, but it is very light and does not have much staying power. Sometimes that is exactly what I want, sometimes not. It is a very nicely balanced floral with Asian spice overtones. I am not sure I would buy it again given the price.

I just tried this fragrance for the first time – I’ve had it on for about 6 hours now. Mitsouko is my No. One favorite fragrance – this may edge it out of the top spot, at least for a while. It has wonderful complexity. It has progressed through about four different phases and seems to have reached its middle to end notes. At first it was more floral, then floral and spicy, next very spicy; now a soft, dry spiciness predominates. I could wear it every day. I’m still trying to decide if the sillage is too much for everyday. At work, I don’t want everyone within 100 feet smelling my fragrance. My grandmother-in-law wore Youth Dew; it was her signature and it is one of those fragrances that lingers in elevators long after you’ve gotten off. I can imagine this being my signature… evoking a memory whenever someone who knows me smells it.
